Westview Co-op invests in Hanna crop input and building supplies businesses

Hanna, AB (January 9, 2019) — Westview Co-op is investing more into east-central
Alberta by purchasing Fox Lake Agro and Hanna Building Supplies. Although Westview
Co-op already serves Members and Guests in Carstairs, Drumheller, Eagle Hill, Linden,
Olds, Sundre, these will be the first locations to serve Consort and Hanna and the
surrounding areas.

“It’s important for us to evolve to serve our communities, which are also changing,” said
Dennis Laing, General Manager of Westview Co-op. “When opportunities come along to
expand our offering to Co-op Members and Guests by building on already respected
local businesses, we have to take them.”

Fox Lake Agro, located near Highway 9 in Hanna, serves Guests through a dry fertilizer
blending plan, bulk bin storage and an AWSA-approved warehouse for agricultural
chemicals. Hanna Building Supplies operates a traditional home and building supplies
for the DIY Guest, as well as a suite of services specifically for contractors. This location
in Hanna also provides outdoor enthusiasts with hunting and fishing supplies. A location
in Consort, AB, provides ag and building supplies and services.
All three locations will officially become part of Westview Co-op on February 15 once
the conditional agreement is completed.

“We’ve always made serving our communities a priority for our businesses,” said Dale
Crowle, President of Fox Lake Agro Hanna Building Supplies. “It was extremely
important for us to make sure that our customers and communities were in good hands.
We’ve seen how everything that Westview Co-op does is exactly what our communities
need. I’m confident they’ll continue to invest in these businesses and our
communities.”

This most recent addition to Westview Co-op builds on the recent purchase of
Horseshoe Canyon Ag—formerly Tri West Agro Ltd.—in October 2018. That site added
granular fertilizer blending, seed and crop supplies services to Westview Co-op’s
offerings in the Drumheller area.

This acquisition is part of a larger growth trend across Co-ops in Western Canada,
especially in the ag sector. Since 2017, 11 agriculture sites have been acquired by Coops
in Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia.
